NYWC: Angry Andy Reviews "Hotter Than Hell"

Rex Lawless vs Shane Strickland

NYWC Fusion Championship Match

FINALLY, I get to see Shane Strickland in action.  I missed the current CZW Wired Champion’s previous appearances in the company, and was excited to see him do his thing.  The idea of him being Rex’s imported Fusion Championship Challenger of the Month ™ worked for me, too.  Based on his reputation, I figured he’d make Rex look good, while showing off a bit and having a good match.

Match wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great.  There were a few visibly blown spots that hurt the match, including one big one where I was legitimately concerned for both guys, especially Rex.  I heard he was fine after, but it really took me out of the match in a “I can’t suspend my disbelief right now, because I’m worried that guy has a serious concussion, neck injury, or both” kinda way.

Anyway, Rex wins clean with his choke-bomb finish, which looks dynamite on guys like Strickland.

What worked:  Legitimately, my favorite thing about this match is that both guys were okay afterwards. I was THAT worried over a botched high spot.  Skip the unnecessarily dangerous spots.  They’re a big roadblock in that inevitable one-way trip to Orlando.

What made me angry: I’d like to see this match again down the road, with the roles reversed. I feel like Strickland’s fast style would make him an effective underdog babyface against Rex’s heel power.
