Camacho & Hunico vs. The Ascension
Hunacho is a fun little tag team that will give Hunico something constructive to do after he’s replaced as Sin Cara on the main roster by Samuray Del Sol . The Ascension (NOT PICTURED) are turning themselves slowly but surely into a viable tag team that feels organic. Well, at least organically a tag team, because their gimmick is still ridiculous. It also seems like they are turning them face, but since neither of them have ever cut a promo anyone remembers, it’s hard to tell, even when the announcers mention things about being heroes and other things that made no sense given their characters. Also, the crowd doesn’t seem to care about them any more than any other tag team, which just sort kinda maybe makes you wonder why they didn’t sign a team like the American Wolves to a short term contract if only to give the Ascension someone learn how to work against.
Even three months ago, the Ascension being mediocre while also being NXT Tag Team champions would not be that big of a concern, but given the emphasis on the tag team division and NXT along with the upcoming launch of the WWE Network, a compelling tag team rivalry on what may become the flagship show for it seems like it would be something the company should be more concerned with. While their in-ring work has improved considerably, and this match was totally enjoyable, it wasn’t nearly the graduate-level work that Sami Zayn and Bo Dallas have been doing with the show’s other title. This needs to change, throwing superstars into tag teams when they don’t have anything to do is how the division got in trouble in the first place, and if you don’t keep teams that connect with the crowd, you’ll eventually just be back to where you were a decade ago.
