Grand Master of the Mat
Drew Gulak vs. Anthony Nese vs. Papadon
For the uninitiated, the Master of the Mat match is an iron man style match, and a Psycho Circus tradition. You earn one point for a pin, 2 for a submission. You lose points for countouts and DQs. All three of these guys have won the Master of the Mat matches in the past, so this one was to determine a “Grand Master.”
The first 10 minutes or so were mostly great technical exchanges. The next 20 were awesome, hard-hitting exchanges and brutally stiff spots, mixed with great dives and high spots. A lot of well-deserved “This is wrestling” chants. Nese wins 3-2-2, to be declared the first grandmaster of the mat.
What I liked: Everything about this was awesome. It was like these guys were handed a half hour to just show off, and went all out.
