Worst Case Scenario
Listen, we all know Roman is the chosen one. We all know the people in charge see Roman as the golden goose, and there’s almost no chance of that changing anytime soon.
But that doesn’t mean we have to stick to the “it’s this guy, in this role, or nothing” mentality that makes professional wrestling so… boring. Roman leaving WrestleMania as a babyface champion will suck… not because it won’t be good, or because it doesn’t make sense. It sucks because we know the crowd is going to shit on it. We know that, instead of blaming themselves, WWE’s powers-that-be will blame the crowd.
And that has quite the familiar stink to it.
There’s nothing fun about being told who to like. There’s nothing fun about being told you’re wrong, for not liking who you’re told to like. There’s nothing fun about listening to supposedly-smart fans complaining that the guy being marketed to fans 20 years their junior isn’t the guy they want to rout for, so they’re going to sabotage live shows.
I’d really prefer not to hate the ending to the show, especially considering I’m flying from New York to Texas to see it, live. If it ends with a smug babyface champion smiling with a title, amidst a sea of boos… I’m not going to leave happy.
