What’s the Worst That Could Happen?: Impact Wrestling Preview, 6/20

TNA Says:

“The Icon” Sting shocked the wrestling world by announcing he was forming a new MAIN EVENT MAFIA in TNA! Will Sting reveal more about his plans this Thursday to reform one of the most dominant groups in TNA history? Who will be the members of Sting’s Main Event Mafia? Don’t miss more from Sting on IMPACT!

Best Case Scenario: Sting gives an official “mission statement” promo for the new Main Event Mafia. He describes exactly what kind of professional and personal qualifications the wrestlers he’s looking for must have. One or two wrestlers cut promos backstage lobbying for a spot in the new Mafia.

Worst Case Scenario: Well, I could paint a Hieronymus Bosch grotesque of the worst case scenario for this whole angle, but I’ll hold off on that… Honestly, the worst thing that could happen on this show is for this angle to (a) completely dominate the show with Sting in five-plus segments or (b) the angle to not seem important at all a week after Sting’s “big announcement.”

Dave Says: TNA has grossly overestimated the value of Main Event Mafia stock. The idea of Sting putting together his “Ocean’s Eleven” team to take on Aces & Eights at Bound For Glory is a good storyline for the summer, but I don’t think the angle needs the MEM name. It’s not like Steiner, Booker, or Nash is going to be there, so why trade so heavily on a name that was associated with them?
