#OwenWeek: Essential Viewing – Juice Make Sugar

There’s a generation of wrestling fans who will never see Owen Hart’s incredible body of work, which is pretty sad to think about. The King of Harts was truly a master of the mat, who learned from the very best in the business.
I can’t let you miss out on one of the greatest who ever lived. So even if I’m repeating myself today, come with me, and enjoy the ride.

It’s no secret that Owen was the focus of my all-time favorite pro wrestling storyline: his year-long turn-and-feud against his big brother, Bret “Hitman” Hart. For my money, it doesn’t get any better. The combination of the in-ring action, and the real-life emotion and family-driven story was just perfect.

There was the Survivor Series match, that set the wheels in motion, after which Owen forgave Bret, much to the fans’ delight. They’d go on to challenge the Quebecers for the tag titles in a match that most remember for the angle and promo that followed.

Now that I’ve kicked your leg out of your leg, you’re probably ready to see the Hart boys do battle. It took six months, but Bret finally relented, and agreed to wrestle his baby brother on the grandest stage of them all, at Madison Square Garden. It was one of the biggest nights of Owen’s career, that would set him up for a future WWF title shot.

Owen wasn’t done with Bret – especially after Bret won the WWF title. Months later – and almost a full year after the story began – Bret and Owen did battle again. This time, it would be inside a steel cage. It’s still one of my favorite matches, ever. Unfortunately for you, I’ve having trouble tracking that one on the Youtube at the moment. Track it down for yourself. I promise. It’s worth it.

Now that you’re back, let’s keep the Hart family train a-movin’. Owen wasn’t just a five-star match machine. The guy could act, and play his role well. The Hart Family was reunited thanks to an incredible Bret Hart promo. Don’t just listen. Watch Owen.

He wasn’t always working with the best in the business. When he was stuck working with guys who couldn’t lace his boots, Owen made it work. Nothing screams “Owen was a magician” quite like his feud with a very over, but not very great wrestler, Ken Shamrock.

There’s only so much I can say about Owen, and only so many videos I can post. I’d rather let his work speak for itself. In the ring, on the mic, it doesn’t matter. It’s all good. Sit back and enjoy. When you’re done, go look for more. You won’t regret it.
