I’ve said it before, but I’m a big Rick Cataldo fan. If you break his gimmick down to the simplest form, he’s a gay man who wrestles women. But he owns the gimmick, and turns the volume up to 11 in such a way that booing him, and cheering his competition, doesn’t feel homophobic. It’s fun. You’re not hating him because he’s gay, but because he’s so over-the-top and in your face, every step of the way. He plays the crowd to perfection, and draws tons of heat before anyone ever takes a bump. He’s 90s Goldust, in the best way.
I don’t know anything about Miss Monique. I can tell you she’s pretty, she’s talented, and she’s a fun babyface. That made her a great foil for Rick Cataldo, in what turned out to be a pretty fun match. Cataldo eventually gets the pin while holding the ropes, so he retains his (and Marti Belle’s) NYWC Starlet Championship.
I don’t know where Monique is from, but I wouldn’t mind having her back in the future. Cataldo is back in action at Till I Collapse, and I’m sure it’s going to be entertaining.
