Andy’s Ecstatic: NXT Takeover Brooklyn

I’m going to start this off by spoiling the 8/26 episode of NXT, which was taped before the live Network special. The crowd was super hot right from the get-go… and it didn’t hurt that the first them we heard was that of Enzo Amore and Big Cass.

Enzo Amore, Colin Cassidy, Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley vs. Dash Wilder, Scott Dawson, Jason Jordan & Chad Gable

This one was all about the hometown babyfaces. Good TV match, fantastic crowd. Lots of fun to hear 13,000+ doing the singalong with Enzo and Cass.

Eva Marie vs. Carmella

The fans shit all over this from the second Eva’s music hits. Lots of “You can’t wrestle” chants, which are probably the most disrespectful thing you can say to a wrestler besides “wrestling is fake” and “you fucked up,” though in Eva’s case, it’s kind of appropriate.

In fairness, this match would have been totally acceptable by Divas match standards about a year ago. It’s nothing special… but I promise, you’ll enjoy the Eva reaction… unless WWE edits the shit out of it.

Bull Dempsey vs. Elias Sampson

Another big pop for another hometown boy, in former NYWC competitor Bull Dempsey. Good to see him  catching on with the crowd with his new “Bull fit” gimmick. Here’s hoping that WWE keeps him moving forward, instead of twisting this into Sweet’n Sour Inc vs. Bobby Dempsey.  Bull wins with Doink’s old Whoopie Cushion finsher… which is kinda perfect for a big but impressive guy.

Emma vs. Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Dana Brooke

This was perfectly fine until the ending, which seems to have been super botched. The future Mrs. Angry Andy hits her weird crossbody in the corner on Charlotte, then hits it on Becky, goes for the cover and… gets the 3. The ref paused, then called for the bell. Emma looked confused. Charlotte looked pissed. Becky clearly kicked out late. Post-match, the babyfaces attacked the heels, and celebrated in the ring. Very weird.
Until the ending, this was fine. Dana was protected, and the other girls looked good. I’m REALLY curious to see how they cover the ending via commentary.
