Andy Will Be Angry If…: WWE Roadblock Edition

Triple H (c) vs. Dean Ambrose

WWE Championship Match

This match was teased hard at the Royal Rumble, giving a lot of smart marks hope that WWE had a trick up its sleeve, and we’d start the year with WWE Champion: Dean Ambrose. The unpredictable always seems to be the most fun in professional wrestling, and this was no exception. The crowd was firmly behind Ambrose, and it was awesome.

Then WWE went ahead and did exactly what we all expected anyway, and put the championship on Triple H, building to a logical-but-predictable WrestleMania main event between the King of Kings, and Roman Reigns.

That’s fine.

WWE has an interesting opportunity here, as well as a big responsibility. We’ll start with the latter.

Both of these guys are booked for “main events” at WrestleMania; Triple H against Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose in a street fight with Brock Lesnar. Both men need to look strong coming out of this match in order to look like viable competition for their WM opponents, since both are expected to take the fall.

But, there’s a big creative opportunity here. An Ambrose win makes WrestleMania utterly unpredictable. Do the matches stay as they are, but with Lesnar-Ambrose becoming the title match? Does Triple H get a rematch on Raw, and we “reset” in time for the big show? Does the main event become a 4-way for the championship? If so, who walks away with the title?

An Ambrose win at Roadblock makes everything between now and the WrestleMania main event must-see, and that is, quite literally, best for business.

I’ll be angry if: Pedigree, 3-count, “your winner, and STILL WWE Champion…”

I’ll keep my cool if: Ambrose wins… whether or not he wins the title.

If I booked it: Ambrose wins. Chaos ensues.

I’m expecting…: Run-ins from Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, and a no-contest.
