Andy Will Be Angry If…: Royal Rumble 2015 Edition

Outlaws Ascension

The New Age Outlaws vs. The Ascension

The Ascension didn’t exactly look weak on Raw.  Some people cried about how they looked like chumps, but let’s be real, here–they got beat up 7-on-2, and that 7 included a couple Hall of Famers, former World Champions… not to mention, some of the biggest stars in the history of the business.

It didn’t make them look bad — it almost made them the babyfaces.

At the Rumble, Konnor and Viktor are out for revenge.  They have to look solid, and they’re going to.  The New Age Outlaws made the Shield look amazing this time last year, and really heated up their face turn and eventual split.  I can see them providing the same rub for The Ascension here.  And if that’s the role the New Age Outlaws are going to take in this era of professional wrestling, I will never complain about their occasional comebacks.

I’ll be angry if: The Outlaws go over.

I’ll keep my cool if: The Ascension win decisively in a match that is just competitive enough not to be considered a squash.  The Dudley Boys return, and respond to an open challenge on Raw, setting up a hard-hitting match for Fast Lane.  When Konnor and Viktor win that one, the Dudleys make the only rematch challenge that makes sense: a tables match for Wrestlemania…’s kickoff show.

Also, if The Ascension’s gimmick for the foreseeable future is “we kill legendary tag teams,” I’m more than okay with it.  It gives them lots of time to build their characters, connect with the crowd, and make people really care about them before they get anywhere near the titles.  That’s a good thing.  Look how well it worked for Randy Orton.
